The half-mile Pioneer Park Trail was completed in 2009. The trail was funded through the Recreation Trails Program of the Federal Highway Administration, administered by the Nebraska Game and Park Commission and the Papio-Missouri River NRD Trails Assistance Program. The trail is in a tranquil setting with a multi-level surface for biking, walking and family fun, with access to parking, picnic shelter, playground equipment and perfectly spaced benches obtained through a grant from the Blair Area Foundation; landscaping and bench installation labor was part of a local eagle scout project (Paul Bayer) with trees and bushes funded by the 2009 OPPD Tree Promotion Program. Trail planning began as a vision of the Fort Calhoun Park Board several years ago and Judy Seaver assisted them on the tree and shrub selections. Additional shade trees will be added this fall.
