Phase I of the Fort Calhoun hiking and biking trail, made possible through grants from the Nebraska Federal Highway's Transportation Enhancement Program administered by the Nebraska Department of Roads and the Papio-Missouri River NRD, that runs from the corner of Washington and 14th Street (Highway 75) to the intersection of Madison and 7th Street (which turns into County Road P34 at this intersection). The trail provides a safe environment for both off street walking and cycling. With its ever changing vistas it has "candy" for the eyes.
The trail starts at Highway 75, runs down the street right of way for Washington Street, skirts the Baseball Complex running between the complex and the adjacent farm fields, passes thought the woods and over the creek, then it turns along County road P34 to the intersection of 7th and Madison streets. Near the entrance to Fort Atkinson State Historical Park.
From this point you can continue around town on Madison or 7th streets or you could visit Fort Atkinson State Historical Park or take County road P34 down to Boyer Chute or pick up the hiking and biking trail that runs back to Omaha from Boyer Chute.
